Rise of Persephone (2015)

Historically, gender is a hierarchy that reinforced the structure of patriarchy. If women since time immemorial are life-givers, then men throughout history glorify their capacities for wars and exploitations. Rise of Persephone is both archetypal resurrection from the culture of death into a culture of life, as well as a kind of sprouting -- what had been buried underground and long forgotten emerges into its new manifestation. Yet, women's struggle for freedom against many facets of patriarchy are still long and arduous, even as it appears as though so many had been accomplished already. Rape culture still permeates this world, and to this day women are paid less than their male counterparts. Feminists are routinely silenced and harassed even by seemingly progressive people. Persephone is risen, but when will she break the glass ceiling and emerge into the fullness of life?
